Mazda MX-5 BBR TURBO The BBR Turbo is based on a standard 1600cc MX-5. Approximately 850 units were made between November 1990 and September 1991 and were only available in red, black or white With 152bhp at 6500rpm this roadster was mainly built for performance and capable of reaching 68mph in just 6.8 seconds BBR is an abbreviation for "Brodie Britain Racing" ... the company responsible for installing the turbo conversion kits which were so good that Mazda endorsed it with their own 3 year 60,000 mile warranty The BBR turbo conversion kit included the following 68 parts: * A Garrett T25 Turbocharger with integral waste gate control & water cooling* Exhaust manifold cast in high temperature alloy with stainless steel heat shield * Air to Air Intercooler and associated pipe work cast to match finish of standard engine * Competition standard hoses throughout * Auxiliary engine management computer * Boost gauge fuel injection control with 3-dimensional mapping * Super and premium unleaded fuel grade switchover for optimum performance * Stainless steel exhaust down pipe * Modified sump * New induction system brace * Modified power steering , water and oil system pipe work * BBR Turbo identification badges Various customer options were made available to further enhance the BBR Turbo. These included a limited slip differential, sports suspension, 15" OZ alloy wheels and a stylish rear spoiler

Mazda MX-5 Limited Edition The Limited Edition is based on a standard 1800cc model and was introduced to celebrate the MX-5's first year of production. Only 250 units were available between March and December 1991 and cost when purchased new This special version was finished in British Racing Green and sported colour coded 15" BBS alloy wheels The interior was nicely trimmed with tan leather seats and deep pile carpet. Further enhancements included a wooden steering wheel, hand-brake grip and gear knob Each Ltd Edition model was supplied with a leather owners wallet and embossed key fob. The leather wallet shared the same brass plaque that was fitted to the vehicle dash This plaque displayed the vehicles unique production number and a certificate was also supplied to prove the vehicle's authenticity Standard vehicle specification also included central locking, electric windows, stainless steel scuff plates and a powerful Clarion CRX111R radio-cassette above a distinctive analogue clock Its also worth noting that these cars were generally fitted with a 'stick-on' number plate ... a 'Mazda' decal was applied to the right side of the front bumper instead of the normal badge too It is also thought that 25 out of the 250 were reserved for 'tax free sales or personal exports' so there may have only ever been 225 in the UK

Only 24 units were manufactured between August and December 1991 and cost £20,499.00 when purchased new The Le Mans was only available to buy in the same colours as the original 787B though it's known that three vehicles were later returned to Mazda UK ... one was repainted orange and the other two black. It is also rumoured that a fourth vehicle was later returned and repainted blue Standard vehicle specification included central locking, electric windows, power steering, security alarm, scuff plates, alloy wheels and a full body kit Each vehicle was also supplied with a leather embossed owner's wallet and a certificate of authenticity signed by Johnny Herbert ... the man who drove the 787B to victory

Mazda MX-5 Gleaneagles The Gleneagles is based on a standard 1800cc model and was introduced to mark three important values in the MX-5 ... tradition, prestige and quality. Only 400 units were made between October 1995 and May 1996 and cost £16,500.00 when purchased new This special version was finished in Montego Blue and sported specially made 15" alloy wheels, Dunlop SP2000 tyres and locking wheel nuts The interior was trimmed with champagne colour leather seats and a matching leather trim around the dash which continued through both door panels Walnut 'effect' trim was used to finish the centre consol and complimented with a wooden gear knob and hand brake grip. The tartan theme was also continued through the gear shift gaiter A black leather steering wheel featured a Gleneagles logo and a powerful Clarion DRX8175R single disc CD player provided the in car entertainment The tonneau cover was also changed which now fitted more snuggly to the panel behind both the seats. This was also finished in a matching champagne trim with a tartan edge The overall package of the "Gleneagles" is one of sheer luxury and high quality and each vehicle was supplied with a tartan owners wallet Standard equipment also included a security immobiliser, cockpit brace, CD player and power steering One of the cars remained in the hands of Mazda UK and was later raffled to raise funds to help send Scottish athletes to the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta

Details of the extra equipment fitted to make this limited Edition are listed below. The Z Sport is the second MK3 (NC) limited edition that has been released in the UK, the first being the 3rd Generation Limited. The Z Sport has also been released in Japan and Australia under the name "Blaze", it is also available in Highland Green (as well as the Radiant Ebony) in Japan, with a third option of Stormy Blue for the Australian market. According to Mazda the word Blaze relates to words such as "sparkle", "blinding light" and "fiery colour" and the images they evoke, I personally think Mazda should have could the UK limited edition Blaze also, but that's neither here nor there. The Z Sport owes a lot of its success to the classic limited edition Icon released in the year 2000 as this was similar in colour combination (albeit a slightly lighter colour). But this certainly is a different car more power, more comfort in fact more of everything, but does more necessary mean a better car. Well in many ways yes! The new car is about evolution not creating a revolution. The new limited edition starts life out as a top of the range sport, so a very high specification car to begin, for example Bilstein suspension and a 6 speed close ratio gear box, air conditioning are all standard equipment. No this is more about creating a strong visual impact. The unique Radiant ebony Mica has not been used in the UK before and is a very unusual colour, sometimes looking very dark other times looking quite bright, the Mica produces a very strong metallic flake in the paint when positioned in the sun looks nothing short of stunning. (Click on the picture right to see the metallic flake effect in the paint) A very classy looking colour that looks great against the chrome accents. Another interesting feature is the headlight units that have chrome inserts as opposed to the standard grey plastic, this was first seen on the 3rd Generation Limited and makes such a huge difference to the overall appearance of the front of the car, this is followed through on the Z Sport with a chrome edged front grill. Chrome door handles, clear high level brake light and clear side repeaters complete most of the exterior styling. Oh except one thing unique 17" multi spoke BBS alloy wheels ! The interior features stone coloured heated leather seats with colour coded door trim, co - coordinated stitching on steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake lever. Chrome accents on the air vents and a aluminium dash panel. The interior is with out doubt a very luxurious place to be. A truly stunning car with almost every conceivable accessory fitted as standard. There really is no competition below £20,000 in fact no probably below £25,000 that comes even close to this. One thing that is very similar to all MX-5's past and present is that one drive and you will be hooked. Details of the extra equipment fitted to make this limited Edition are listed below. The Limited Edition "Niseko" has been named after the famous Japan ski resort Niseko (shown on the left) It is not clear why Mazda decided to call this limited edition by this name, but in my opinion it is probably due to the colours the cars was produced in, Icy Blue Metallic and Sunlight Sliver Metallic are shades definitely prominent in the photo left. The name Icy Blue Metallic also match this theory. This was the first time Mazda had released a limited edition in the PRHT (power retractable hard top) although I am sure it will not be the last. Both cars have very similar specifications while the more powerful 2.0 (only available as a PRHT) benefits from a limited slip differential and extra safety features such as dynamic stability control and side air bags. The 1.8 is only available with a soft top, but this is not the standard black top, but a more luxurious dark brown Mohair roof. A Unique 17" alloy wheel design also made the "Niseko" stand out amongst other MX-5's. Other exterior features unique to the "Niseko" included a chrome pack including exterior door handle covers, side repeater surrounds, grille surround, front fog light surround and chrome headlamp bezels. Unique body-coloured style bar trim and "Niseko" exterior badging. The interior features a unique dark brown leather steering wheel with integrated audio controls, dark brown heated leather seats, door trim and a dark brown leather handbrake / gear knob all finished with co-ordinated blue stitching. Luxury carpet mats are also included with the "Niseko" logo in blue stitching. Climate controlled air conditioning is also included, this is useful for when it is just to hot to lower the roof, it is also very useful for demisting. The interior of both the 1.8 and the 2.0 are very unique as this colour was not available before in the UK making this a very unusual combination to see on the British roads. The Icy Blue Metallic adds and even more unusual touch as this is a new colour Mazda has introduced specially for the "Niseko". The sunlight silver has been used many times before |

That’s from an engine built entirely within the standard confines of the engine bay as well, so no nasty, irreversible structural alterations required, and no changes to the driveline save a reinforced clutch. As soon as he’d reflashed the ECU, McKay gave the car to us for an early taster. We can therefore confirm how thoroughly indecent that much power feels in this diminutive Mazda. We didn’t have chance to strap on the timing gear, but it feels like it’d crack 60mph in about 5.0sec and 100mph in about the 12.0sec mark.
